Our latest banner photo shows the Glasair of David Etchells who is helping Child Flight get around the country to our various meetings with schools planning this year’s Curious Minds leadership programmes. David flew us up to Whangarei on the 13/2/2019 to meet Paul Botica from Whangarei Intermediate who is helping us bring together up to 7 schools for the programme. We took the opportunity to visit the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre where we will be presenting the course over a week from the 18th March through to the 22nd.
Interesting statistic: The Glasair cruises at 195kts. That is 361KPH….
December 2018 Waikato Aero Club provided an aircraft for Child Flight’s winner Mary and her kids. Mary wrote the winning essay “why my kids deserve a flight” which was conducted through the Breeze Radio Station in Hamilton.
Saturday 22nd of September we got another flight away with L3 Academy for a young student from Patricia Avenue Special School. Our pilot Yohay Yagolnitzer allowed our youngster to handle the controls for a while. We are sure he won’t forget this experience in a hurry….
Saturday 1st of September, the start of Spring. L3 Academy & Child Flight managed to beat the weather and get a flight away from Hamilton Airport in a Cessna 172. 3 very deserving passengers enjoyed a 30 minute flight over Hamilton & Raglan. L3 Academy (previously CTC) provide training facilities at Hamilton Airport for aspiring commercial pilots who want to join the airlines. They are a great partner for Child Flight as they provide us with local flight opportunities for special needs. Their pilots are highly qualified with commercial pilot licences and flight instructor ratings.
Plans are under way to get as many as 70 kids in the air by the end of the year. We will be combining the flights with our Curious Minds programme. This is going to be a huge challenge to pull off!!
3rd March 2018 we managed to complete our first flight for Cerebral Palsy from Hamilton Airport. This flight was sponsored by Z Energy, Z Avgas, Hamilton Airport and Airways NZ. Phenomenal to have all these wonderful organisations and people involved with us.
28 February was a great milestone in Child Flight's existence with the cementing of a wonderful relationship with L3 Airline Academy the recently changed name of CTC based in Hamilton. L3 conducted a flight to Whangarei at the request of Child Flight where 2 flights were given to young students from Blomfield Special School. Photos below say it all....
February 2nd 2018, we flew the Arrow up to Kaitaia for a further meeting with Fraser Smith. Still on track for the big class of Curious Minds which has taken over 8 months to plan.
On the 4th October we flew to Kaitaia to conduct meetings with the local school representative Fraser Smith, the CEO of Te Ahu Charitable Trust and representatives of the local community. Planning has reached a mature stage for the large Curious Minds class which will be conducted on the 9th march 2018 in the Te Ahu Community Centre's theatre. The programme will be offered to 110 students over a week.
23 September, Two flights from Hamilton Airport, sponsored by WEL Energy Trust. These flights were an integral part of the Curious Minds class undertaken for Women's Refuge
On Friday, 25th August we flew the FLYSTARK Airvan to Kaitaia to undertake 4 flights for our 2017 Curious Minds class. We had been trying to get these flights away since April, but the weather had played havoc with our planning. It was a relief to all when the high over the Tasman stayed around for a week!!! The first flight of the day, see photo below:
We conducted our first flight in months today, 1st August 2017, for Z Tauranga. D L Investment run the Bay of Plenty Z Group of service stations and they have supported Child Flight for 3 years. We decided to give them a reward with a flight over Tauranga and surrounding countryside. One of our passengers experienced her first flight!! see video below:
